Champions League qualifying round reveal: Fixtures, results, state of play and key dates

The 2022-2023 UEFA Champions League season will start with a qualifying match on 21 June and concludes on 24 August. From the qualifying round, six-team will be selected for the Group stage round. who’s involved and how does it work?

Preliminary round

The preliminary round draw was held on Tuesday, June 6.
Four team entrants are automatically in the preliminary round and after the first tie, 2 winners will play the preliminary final. The winners of the preliminary round final progress to the first qualifying round. The other 3 teams transfer to the UEFA Europa Conference League champions path second qualifying round.

First qualifying round

A total of 30 teams will participate in this round. 29 automatic entrants and 1 from the preliminary round who will be the winner of the Preliminary round final.

The draw for the first qualifying round was held on Tuesday 14 June. The first legs will play on 5/6 July, and the second legs were played on 12/13 July 2022.

Groups play home and away with the total victors advancing to the second qualifying round champions path. in the event that groups are level following 180 minutes, additional time and penalties will be played. There are no away goals. The losers will be transferred to the Europa Conference League Champions Path second qualifying round.

Second qualifying round

Teams involved in Champions path (20): 15 teams will take place from the first qualifying round and 4 automatic entrants.
League path 4 team automatic entrants. So a total of 24 teams will tack place in this round.

Groups play home and away with the total champs advancing to their particular way of the third qualifying round; assuming that groups are level following 180 minutes, additional time and penalties will be played. There are no away goals.

The draw for the second qualifying round was hung on 15 June 2022. The main legs will be played on 19 and 20 July, and the subsequent legs will be played on 26 and 27 July 2022.

Third qualifying round

The draw for the third qualifying round will be hung on 18 July 2022. A sum of 20 groups will play in the round. They will be isolated in two ways:

  • Champions Path (12 groups): 2 groups which enter in this round, and 10 victors of the second qualifying round Champions Path.
  • League Path (8 groups): 6 groups that enter in this round, and 2 champs of the second qualifying round League Path.

Teams play home and away with the aggregate winners progressing to their respective paths of the play-offs; if teams are level after 180 minutes, extra time and penalties will be played. There are no away goals.

Play-offs round

The draw for the play-off round will be held on 1 August 2022. A total of 12 teams will play in the play-off round. They will be divided into two paths:

  • Champions path (8): 2 automatic entrants, 6 from third qualifying round winners.
  • Domestic path (4): all from third qualifying round winners.
